10:43 a.m. Employee Appreciation Day is in full swing now. The Great Hall has filled with UNC staff making rounds and speaking with departmental representatives. Employee Forum parliamentarian Matthew McKirihan from the School of Law is updating the staff on the organization’s programs and meetings.
10:46 a.m. Campus Community Garden director Claire Lorch greets staff at their table. The Campus Community Garden serves low-income staff and provides housekeepers with fresh produce to supplement their paychecks.
10:52 a.m. Senior Director of Benefits and Work/Life Programs Ashley Nicklis and volunteers hand out goodie bags to staff.
11:07 a.m. Angel Collie, assistant director of the LGBTQ Center, passes out information to staff about the center’s programming. Collie is raising awareness of this week’s announcement that the University’s benefit programs will extend to partners of same-sex couples who are employed at Carolina. The announcement came as a result of a court ruling last week that struck down the ban on same-sex marriage.
