A message from David Routh, Vice Chancellor of University Development, below:
I am writing to share with you the opportunity to honor Chancellor Carol Folt and her service to Carolina. Since the moment Carol Folt set foot on campus in 2013 as our University’s 11th chancellor, she has been a tireless advocate for UNC-Chapel Hill students, faculty and staff. Carol has had an impressive list of accomplishments at Carolina while leading us through some challenging times. I know you have experienced firsthand her energy, warmth and love for this place and its people.
We would like to recognize Carol for her outstanding service before she steps down at the end of this month, and we hope you will join us in this effort. We identified two areas that have a special place in Carol’s heart: 1) the pressing need for scholarships so that Carolina remains accessible and affordable to every qualified student, and 2) the importance of integrating the arts into every student’s Carolina experience. Please consider making a gift to one of the following named funds:
Carol L. Folt Carolina Covenant Scholarships
Carol’s number one priority at Carolina has been to ensure that a Carolina education is available to all qualified students regardless of their life circumstances. The Carolina Covenant gives students the opportunity to come to Chapel Hill and graduate debt-free with a world-class education from one of the nation’s best universities. For every $100,000 raised, we can fund one Folt Covenant Scholarship.
Carol L. Folt Chancellor’s Science Scholarships
As a life scientist, Carol knows firsthand the critical importance of producing the next generation of great, diverse scientists and engineers. She has been a great champion of this unique Carolina scholarship program that is committed to recruiting and expanding the demographic makeup of aspiring STEM professionals. For every $200,000 raised for this initiative, we can fund one Folt Chancellor’s Science Scholarship.
Carol L. Folt Fund for the Arts
In appreciation for Carol’s vision for Arts Everywhere, this fund will help ensure that all students can fulfill their creative potential as an essential part of the Carolina experience. Funds will increase students’ direct participation in the performing, literary and visual arts. We need $500,000 minimum to create an endowed Folt Fund for the Arts.
Carol’s remaining time as our Chancellor is limited, so I hope you will take a moment right now to make a gift. I also encourage you to forward this email to others whom you think may want to participate.
Carol has given so much to our great University during the past six years. Please join me in thanking her for her many contributions. Your gift will be a meaningful commemoration of Carol’s legacy and will live on for generations to come through these permanent scholarships and endowments.
Thank you in advance for your consideration.
