Honoring Employees who Battled Snow and Ice in January 2000
RESOLUTION OF THE EMPLOYEE FORUM
THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA AT CHAPEL HILL
March 1, 2000
WHEREAS, the Mission of the Employee Forum is to address constructively the concerns of the Employees of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; and
WHEREAS, these concerns include the recognition of individuals who have distinguished themselves in service to the University community, so as to encourage similar achievement among the remainder of the community’s members; and
WHEREAS, individuals in our midst have distinguished themselves in rapid and effective response to dire natural calamity; by laboring days and nights to enable the University to carry on essential functions; and
WHEREAS, some of these individuals braved frigid conditions to carry on, around the clock, exhausting work which cleared miles of University sidewalks and streets of snow and ice; and
WHEREAS, individuals stayed away from their homes for two and three days to make themselves available for this effort; and
WHEREAS, this effort enabled students, faculty, and other Employees to carry on essential functions necessary to the lives of those residing on campus, alleviating greatly a situation treacherous to life, limb and property; and
WHEREAS, such recognition is necessary and appropriate;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Employee Forum hereby confers honors and its gratitude upon the Employees who worked together to keep the University functioning during the snow and ice storms of January, 2000.
