and Mr. William “Bus” Hubbard
RESOLUTION OF THE EMPLOYEE FORUM
THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA AT CHAPEL HILL
March 5, 2003
WHEREAS, the Mission of the Employee Forum is to address constructively the concerns of the Employees of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; and
WHEREAS, these concerns include the recognition of individuals who have distinguished themselves in service to the University community, so as to encourage similar achievement among the remainder of the community’s members; and
WHEREAS, these individuals have brought widespread acclaim to the campus through painstaking maintenance of the University’s natural legacy, the attractive quality of its gardens, lawns, trees and shrubberies, and
WHEREAS, these individuals also have distinguished themselves by rapid and effective response to dire natural calamity, laboring days and nights to enable the University to carry on essential functions; and
WHEREAS, some of these individuals have repeatedly braved frigid and dangerous conditions to carry on, around the clock, exhausting work which cleared miles of University sidewalks and streets of snow, ice and debris; and
WHEREAS, in these instances, these individuals typically stay away from their homes for two and three days to make themselves available for this effort; and
WHEREAS, this continuing and exceptional effort enables the University to carry on essential functions necessary to the lives of those residing on campus, alleviating greatly situations treacherous to life, limb and property; and
WHEREAS, such recognition is necessary and appropriate;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Employee Forum hereby honors the accomplishments and commitment of the Employees of the Grounds Department of the University
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Forum also hereby honors fifty-year Grounds Employee William “Bus” Hubbard for his great character and loyalty, on the occasion of the University naming a building in his honor.
