Urging Continuing and Permanent Funding for the HEELS for Health Employee Wellness Program

RESOLUTION OF THE EMPLOYEE FORUM

THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA AT CHAPEL HILL

June 4, 2003

WHEREAS, the Mission of the Employee Forum is to address constructively the concerns of the Employees of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; and

WHEREAS these concerns include maintenance of a workplace environment which encourages the good health and welfare among all of its Employees, so as to create within the University a more efficient workplace and a more alert and motivated workforce; and

WHEREAS, it well befits the University to maintain a healthy and fit workforce, to minimize disruption and financial losses resultant from Employee illness; and

WHEREAS programs encouraging staff and faculty to reach and maintain physical fitness also financially benefit the University through attendant lowering of its insurance premiums; and

WHEREAS the HEELS for Health program has effectively endeavored to meet these goals through the organization of exercise programs, the conduct of Employee wellness assessments, stress reduction seminars and relaxation workshops, and the establishment of community “healthy recipe” cookoffs and campus “fun runs”, among many other projects; and

WHEREAS the need for this program has made itself even more evident since its creation

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Employee Forum encourages the Chancellor and Administration of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to find permanent funding for the HEELS for Health program in the department of Exercise and Sport Science, in order that the excellent work of this project may continue

AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that if permanent funding for the HEELS for Health program not be available, the Forum encourages the University to continue to find funding for the program in ways it finds appropriate.

Signed on behalf of the delegates of the Employee Forum
