RESOLUTION OF THE EMPLOYEE FORUM
THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA AT CHAPEL HILL
December 1, 2004
WHEREAS, the Mission of the Employee Forum is to address constructively the concerns of employees of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; and
WHEREAS, those concerns include the receipt of regular and appropriate salary increases as a means of meeting the rising cost of living; and
WHEREAS, Employees’ salaries have not maintained parity with the consumer price index for inflation; and
WHEREAS, the increases in cost-of-living expenses and family healthcare premiums have effectively decreased the pay of state employees; and
WHEREAS, job stability, health care, and other employee benefits are no longer attractive or sufficiently competitive to recruit and retain employees; therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, that the UNC-Chapel Hill Employee Forum asks the General Assembly to: Provide all state employees with a minimum of a $3,500 annual pay raise or a 2.5% pay raise based on their current annual salary, whichever is greater. All raises would begin at the start of the fiscal year 2005–2006. All categories of state employees deserve to be compensated;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Employee Forum of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill strongly recommends that the Chancellor and his Administration convey and support publicly the concepts of this resolution in dealings with the University System Office of the President and the North Carolina State Legislature.
