Concerning Creation and Entry Into a UNC System Staff Assembly
RESOLUTION OF THE EMPLOYEE FORUM
THE University OF NORTH CAROLINA AT CHAPEL HILL
March 2, 2005
WHEREAS, the Mission of the Employee Forum is to address constructively the concerns of employees of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; and
WHEREAS, those concerns include the representation of staff concerns to University officials, State Legislators and the citizenry of North Carolina; and
WHEREAS, organizations similar to the Employee Forum at each of the University of North Carolina Systems’ fifteen other campuses exist for this same purpose; and
WHEREAS, joining in common cause with these other representative organizations would better serve the Forum’s mission and increase the efficiency of University operations across the UNC System, through common use of “best practices” developed by the various organizations; and
WHEREAS, University faculty and students have created similar System-wide organizations which have developed formal relationships with the Board of Governors and the Office of the President, namely the UNC Faculty Assembly (Charter Adopted April 15, 1972) and UNC Association of Student Governments (Recognized in UNC Policy Manual: 700.3 as of July 12, 2002); and
WHEREAS, University staff have waited patiently for eight years since the creation of a System-wide Staff Assembly was first raised with the Office of the President in 1997; therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, that the UNC-Chapel Hill Employee Forum authorizes its officers to enter into negotiations with other UNC System representatives towards creation of a UNC System Staff Assembly; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Employee Forum of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill strongly recommends that the Chancellor and his Administration urge creation of the UNC System Staff Assembly in dealings with the University Board of Trustees, the University System Office of the President and the University System Board of Governors.
Signed on Behalf of the Delegates of the Employee Forum,
Chair, Tommy Griffin
