Thanking the Board of Governors for its Advocacy of Staff Salary Increases

RESOLUTION OF THE EMPLOYEE FORUM

THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA AT CHAPEL HILL

March 6, 1996

WHEREAS, the Mission of the Employee Forum, as the representative body of the Employees of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, is to address constructively the concerns of these Employees and their University; and

WHEREAS, those concerns certainly include the receipt of regular and appropriate salary increases, as a means of meeting the cost of living and of receiving tangible reward for having attained proficiency, expertise and a high level of quality in one’s work; and

WHEREAS, in the effort to secure such increases, the support of any body or assembly is dearly welcome; and

WHEREAS, the support of such an august body as the Board of Governors of University of North Carolina is highly desirable and greatly beneficial to the pursuit of this enterprise; and

WHEREAS, though the Board has vested power only to make requests for salary increases for faculty and EPA non-faculty, it has extended itself beyond this charge in support of salary increases for System SPA Employees; and

WHEREAS, the Board’s strong support for SPA salary increases represents a strong precedent and a valuable foundation for increased understanding between the Board, the General Assembly and the broad range of System Employees;

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Employee Forum hereby offers its sincere gratitude to the Board of Governors for its precedent-setting advocacy of increases in staff salaries; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Employee Forum will work in continued good faith to reciprocate the goodwill extended by the Board of Governors in our combined efforts to improve the University System; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that, in this spirit of goodwill, the Employee Forum reiterates its request, first advanced November 2, 1994, “that future budget requests reference the invaluable contributions of all University of North Carolina Employees and their needs for adequate compensation.”

Signed on behalf of the Delegates of the Employee Forum

Ann Hamner, Chair
