Supporting the Efforts of Employees to Obtain Education and Degrees
RESOLUTION OF THE EMPLOYEE FORUM
THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA AT CHAPEL HILL
June 6, 1996
WHEREAS, the Mission of the Employee Forum is to address constructively the concerns of the Employees of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; and
WHEREAS, these concerns include the recognition of Employees who have distinguished themselves within the University community, so as to encourage similar achievement among the remainder of the community’s members; and
WHEREAS, certain Employees among us pursue the University’s ideals of “lifelong education” through attainment of learning, degrees and diplomas in the University’s Tuition Waiver and Educational Assistance programs, as well as remedial and high school equivalency work; and,
WHEREAS, these Employees have persevered in the spirit of these ideals to meet entrance and course requirements of reputable educational institutions throughout the State and Nation while balancing pressing responsibilities at home and in the workplace; and
WHEREAS, these Employees’ pursuit of knowledge and achievement has improved their usefulness, confidence and effectiveness within the University community; and
WHEREAS, these Employees have encouraged others to better themselves in light of their diligent example; and
WHEREAS, the example of these Employees resounds to the general good of the University community and all of its members by underscoring the enduring potential and importance of education as a means to advance the aspirations of all and each, and
WHEREAS, this hope for advancement is firmly grounded within the University’s history and Mission Statement, as well as the egalitarian traditions of this State;
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Employee Forum expresses encouragement and congratulations to those Employees attempting or completing classes or degrees this year;
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Employee Forum encourages continuance and expansion of the University’s Free Tuition and Educational Assistance Programs, to further this high pursuit among Employees and citizens;
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Employee Forum supports the efforts of the Chancellor to expand the University’s educational offerings in the evening and on weekends, as a means of furthering this pursuit among Employees and citizens;
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Forum requests that the Chancellor and his Administration continue to support the concepts of this resolution in dealings with the University’s General Administration, and the North Carolina State Legislature.
