Encouraging the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to find Permanent Funding for the Campus Diversity Training Project
RESOLUTION OF THE EMPLOYEE FORUM
THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA AT CHAPEL HILL
April 1, 1998
WHEREAS, the Mission of the Employee Forum is to address constructively the concerns of the Employees of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; and
WHEREAS these concerns include the creation and maintenance of a friendly and cooperative workplace environment which encourages teamwork and respect for all Employees; and
WHEREAS the Campus Diversity Training Project has proved to be a valuable resource for assisting Employees to better understand the effects of prejudice and discrimination on others and on themselves, thereby increasing understanding and harmony in the work force; and
WHEREAS the Campus Diversity Training Project frequently has been invited into work units to assist in resolving conflicts and misunderstandings among staff and has often succeeded in doing so; and
WHEREAS the Campus Diversity Training Project has trained over 40 University Employees to take leadership on our campus in ending discrimination and reducing inter-group conflict; and
WHEREAS the Campus Diversity Training Project thus far has been funded through an allocation from Pan-University funds which are no longer available; and
WHEREAS the Campus Diversity Training Project thus far has been directed by a full-time faculty member who has been partially supported by these funds and who is retiring at the end of this academic year
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that The Employee Forum encourages the Chancellor of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to find funding for the Campus Diversity Training Project and to create a full-time permanent position for its Director, in order that the excellent work of this project may continue.
