Join us for Social Media Best Practices
April 24, 2015 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm
FreeAll faculty and staff are welcome to join us for a workshop titled “Social Media Best Practices.” The workshop will be led by Lu Wu, a graduate student in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication. The workshop is free with registration.
Most everyone wants to stay connected with students, coworkers and friends, and social media allows us to connect, share, and discuss. As professionals, we also use social media to reach a wide scope of audiences. However, the line between personal space and workspace can be easily blurred while using social media. What should we think about before tapping on that “Post” button? In this session, we will discuss strategies for social media to promote content and to engage an audience. We will also talk about issues such as appropriateness, privacy, responsibility and related concerns as we promote our research and professional agendas. Discussion will ensue as we share examples and guidelines applicable university faculty, staff, and professionals alike.
Lu Wu is a Ph.D. student and Roy H. Park Fellow in the School of Journalism and Mass communication at UNC Chapel Hill. Lu received a master’s degree in journalism from Ohio University in 2013 and a bachelor’s degree from Tianjin Foreign Studies University in China. Lu has worked as a television and radio reporter. She was a social media intern at CNN in Atlanta, Georgia, and a multimedia reporter for WOUB in Athens, Ohio. Her research focus is on health communication, particularly how media influence public health behaviors in a digital age.
This event is cosponsored by the Association for Women Faculty and Professionals (AWFP) and the Employee Forum.
