UNC Employee Forum Sponsored Habitat for Humanity Build- June 7, 2019
June 7, 2019 @ 8:00 am - 4:30 pm
Join the Employee Forum on Friday, June 7, 2019 from 8:00AM – 4:30 PM to help build a home for a deserving member of the UNC Community! Orange County Habitat for Humanity is building a home in Hillsborough, NC that will be gifted to UNC Hospitals Staff Member Anne Marie Pellet (see below for more info on her)!
There will be a morning shift from 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM and an afternoon shift from 12:30 PM – 4:30 PM. We will contact all volunteers who sign up to determine your preference for either the morning or afternoon shift and will do our best to assign you to your desired shift. Once registered for the event, you will also be given a link to register formally for the event with Habitat for Humanity, where you will sign their waiver and provide emergency contact information. *This is an important requirement.* This link will be sent about two weeks prior to the event.
We welcome interested UNC units/departments from across campus to gather their workgroup to participate. This is a great team building activity! Individuals from throughout campus and the Chapel Hill community are welcome to participate as well. Please remember that all UNC Staff have Community Service Leave available to them for events such as this! (More details on this in the FAQ below)
We ask that you commit to donating $10 per volunteer to cover the costs of materials that Habitat for Humanity incurs. Donations above and beyond the $10 participation donation per volunteer are welcome! You can bring cash or check to the build day in order to donate. For those units/departments or individuals who are unable to donate, but still wish to send a delegation, please reach out to Katie Musgrove for assistance.
Lunch, snacks and bottled waters will be provided for all of our volunteers, but please feel free to bring any other food/drink as needed. Pizza will be served in between shifts for both morning and afternoon volunteers. Please remember to bring sunscreen as well!

Most importantly, be prepared to have fun and know that you are directly impacting the life of a hardworking member of the UNC Community!

Future Homebuyer: Anne Marie Pellet
Crescent Magnolia Neighborhood
Anne Marie has lived in Chapel Hill since 2006 and has worked as a housekeeper on a children’s unit at UNC Hospitals for three years. She has always lived near major health care centers, and enjoys the environment of working in a hospital.
“My job is fun when the children realize I’m not a nurse, and I’m not here to poke them or ask questions. I’m here to clean their room, but I’m also there to have fun with you and make you comfortable during your stay,” said Anne Marie.
Anne Marie first found out about Habitat’s senior housing community when she saw a flyer at work while she was checking in for her shift. She was already searching for an affordable place to live, so she applied immediately and was accepted to purchase a home.
“The rent at my apartment keeps increasing, which is pushing out the core community,” said Anne Marie. “This program is great for creating security and building a community that can support each other. This is also a chance for me to settle in and have a place to live in until I die without wondering if my rent will ever increase.”
While she is excited to have the chance to learn how to build her own home, she is even more excited about exploring her new town of Hillsborough. With art galleries, walking trails, and parks all nearby, she can’t wait for this next adventure.
