Resolution Honoring Richard Richardson, Provost of the University

Upon His Retirement From that Position

RESOLUTION OF THE EMPLOYEE FORUM

THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA AT CHAPEL HILL

May 3, 2000

WHEREAS, the Mission of the Employee Forum is to address constructively the concerns of the Employees of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; and

WHEREAS, these concerns include the recognition of individuals who have distinguished themselves in service to the University community, so as to encourage similar achievement among the remainder of the community’s members; and

WHEREAS, an individual among us has distinguished himself by extraordinary resolution and high devotion to duty to the University community in his tenure as Provost of the University and Burton Craig Professor of Political Science; and

WHEREAS, during his stewardship as Provost, this individual has extended himself and the powers of his office to increase the quantity and quality of relations among students, faculty, and staff Employees; and

WHEREAS, this individual has exemplified the intelligence, steadfastness, loyalty, integrity, good humor and accessibility that make up qualities of the ideal Tar Heel;

AND WHEREAS, this individual has served the University faithfully during a term of great crisis, at personal risk to himself during a concurrent illness

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the Employee Forum extends its warm best wishes and thanks to Richard Richardson as he retires from his post as Provost of the University, and invites him to meet and speak with this body upon any occasion found to be appropriate.
