Concerning use of the Staff Development Fund to include payment of work-related conference or registration fees

RESOLUTION OF THE EMPLOYEE FORUM

THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA AT CHAPEL HILL

December 6 , 2006

WHEREAS, the mission of the Employee Forum is to address constructively the concerns of employees of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; and

 

WHEREAS, the Employee Forum seeks to support and promote staff development and continuing education of the employees of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; and

 

WHEREAS, many departments are unable or unwilling to fund registration fees for work-related workshops and conferences; and

 

WHEREAS, the report from the Task Force for a Better Workplace report includes the observation that “Training is the #1 way to reward employees, make them feel empowered, and keep them intellectually stimulated.”1

 

BE IT RESOLVED, that the Employee Forum Staff Development Fund guidelines be amended to include the payment of work-related conference or workshop registration fees.

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the reimbursement not exceed $100 per year, per person, and be included as part of the employee’s $500 per year limit as set forth in the guidelines of the Employee Forum Staff Development Fund that were approved by the Employee Forum and the Chancellor.
