Concerning Again Seeking Staff Representation on the Board of Trustees
RESOLUTION OF THE EMPLOYEE FORUM
THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA AT CHAPEL HILL
November 1, 2002
WHEREAS, the Mission of the Employee Forum is to address constructively the concerns of the Employees of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; and
WHEREAS the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has a long and great tradition of consultative governance; and
WHEREAS the members of the staff have an important and long-term interest in the well-being and future direction of the University; and
WHEREAS the members of the staff devote their intellectual, physical, spiritual and temporal energies to support and improve the teaching, scholarship and service functions that enable the University to carry out its mission to the State; and
WHEREAS the members of the staff have valuable perspectives, information, and insight that will be beneficial to sound governance and deliberation; and
WHEREAS the Board of Trustees has previously voted against staff representation on that august body, but the Forum was not afforded an opportunity beforehand to present the case for staff representation to the Board before the Board reached its final decision; and
WHEREAS the Forum believes that this lack of information precluded the Board from making a fully informed decision
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Employee Forum requests a chance to make a presentation to the Board of Trustees or an appropriate subcommittee on the subject of staff representation on the Board
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Employee Forum again calls upon the Board of Trustees of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to provide for a non-voting seat and voice on the Board of Trustees for the Chair of the Forum.
Signed on Behalf of the Delegates of the Employee Forum,
Chair Tommy Griffin
